Jakarta, Spasi-id.com - Believe it or not, the term "Moisturizer" was originally a marketing invention. It's based on the idea that Moisturizer works only by moisturizing the skin, when actually more.
Basically, Moisturizer is a topical treatment that reduces the dry skin symptoms and makes the rough skin feel smoother.
♪ Over just wet your skin ♪—It can weaken its natural protective layer.—The important role of moisturizing is to trap the water and prevent it from coming out.
Depending on what else is in the formula, Moisturizer also fixes the skin barrier, provides antiaging material and / or antiinflammatory, and reduces discomfort from certain skin conditions like dermatitis and eczema.
In terms of texture, most of Moisturizer is oil and water emulsions, providing the consistency of cream or lotion. However, a higher concentration of water will feel more like gel (and often oil-free), whereas a formula with a lot of oil will tend to be thicker, more rich balm.
What did Moisturizer do to your skin?
Well-defined moisturizer performed three major functions for your skin:
Re-charging Air Dome
When humidity is less, the outer layer of your skin is parched, flexible and vulnerable. Certain ingredients called humektan can overcome this by pulling and holding water.
"Humektan is mostly a molecule of low weight binding water into a corneum stratum," said Dr. Hadley King.
"They need to be used together with other components to maintain water levels."
Fix Leather
The materials that fix the barrier treat the main cause of the drought — Broken skin barrier — By replicating a natural lipid balance found in a healthy skin.
"The most healthy skin consists of an exact balance of three major lipids: cholesterol, ceramide, and free fat acid," answers Dr. Mervyn Patterson.
"They are the natural protection of the skin and ideally, they are in the 1: 1: 1 ratio."
It fixes the skin barrier by closing the gap between the skin cells.
"If the ceramides applied with another lipid like cholesterol in a combination similar to the one found in the skin barrier, this improved more repair barrier," plus Dr. Justine Hextall.
Prevent water loss
To prevent the evaporation of water from your skin into the atmosphere, moisturizer combines humektan with occlusive. It's a material that forms a protective barrier on your skin to stop the loss of moisture. Need to know that occlusive doesn't deliver its own hydration.
"They put a hose on your skin by lining the top layer," said Dr. Elizabeth Tanzi. "It's different from drawing water and hydrating skin."
