Initially, they named this band Kus Brothers in 1958 and recorded the first album in 1962. After Jan Petty and Tommy Darmo resigned, the group was renamed Kus Brothers in 1963.

A short while later their eldest brother Jon Koeswoyo resigned himself so that left four sisters' personnel led by Tonny Koeswoyo. Apparently, this group then went back to renaming it the Koes Brothers.
