That feature resembles Instagram's message bar, which is the ability to watch the Status directly from the WhatsApp chat list.
Commencing from WABetaInfo, beta version 22.18.0.70 presents the ability to view status updates in chat list.

However, according to WABetainfo the user was given the option to use that feature or not. So you can see the Status post directly on the chat list.
