"If you look at it globally, it turns out that there are at least three countries currently experiencing a spike in the case, which is Japan, the United States and India," said Wiku at the press conference, quoted on Saturday (27 / 8 / 2022).
Per August 21, 2022, Japan was recorded to have increased positive cases by over 1.5 million in one week. As the case in the United States also surges to nearly 600 thousand cases per week, and in India for 80,000 cases per week.
Wiku explained, there are several causes of rise in the three countries. In Japan, an increase occurs due to the dominance of BA.5 variant in positive cases.
In Japan, citizens may remove masks in public, as long as it's a safe distance between one person and another person at least two meters. If you can't keep your distance, then the mask should be used.
In the United States, there's also a rise due to a [new] BA.4.6 variant that dominates new cases there. Besides, the United States has long since loosened its practice of health protocols, including wearing masks and keeping their distance. So the contagion is rapidly expanding in society.
