Spasi-id.comMeta has sued the company that does business as HeyMods, Sorot Mobi and HeyWhatsApp for stealing millions of whatsApp accounts using unofficial whatsApp Android applications, as reported by Bleeping Computer from the nendget.com on Sunday (09 / 10).
An application filled with malware is available on several APK sites and even Google Play Store, according to the complaint.
Expected to steal Millions of WhatsApp Accounts, Pressing Several Application Developers
"After the victims installed Dangerous Applications, they were asked to include their WhatsApp user credentials," according to the suit filed in the US District Court in San Francisco. "The defendant programmed Dangerous Applications to nominate user credentials to WhatsApp computers and get user account keys and authentication information."
Chief WhatsApp Will Cathcart warned the user not to download any fake apps, saying it was just a scam to steal the personal information stored on people's phones. He added that Meta's findings were shared with Google, and in July, Google Play Protection was updated to detect and disable false applications.
"We will also take legal action against HeyMods and will seek legal options to request the responsibility of HeyMods and others like them," he said.

Meta says developers effectively violate their treaties, although the jurisdiction is unclear because of complaints shows that the company is set under three different laws (Hong Kong, Beijing and Taiwan). However, Cathcart gave some universal advice to any application: "If you see a friend or family using a different WhatsApp form, please encourage them to just use WhatsApp from a trusted application store or our official website directly at http: / / WhatsApp.com / dl."
