Jakarta, Spasi-id.com - Apple and Google say today that they will launch software updates to activate 5G support in India, the second largest wireless market in the world, just a few days after local bureaucrats started pushing telephone makers to speed up their efforts.
Reliance Jio and Airtel, the two largest operators in India, have started offering 5G services in certain cities in India in the last few weeks, but many popular handsets in this country today do not support local air waves.
This smart phone has hardware capabilities for 5G, but the manufacturer needs to work with local network operators to release software updates to enable support for local air waves.
For that, Apple today said it would issue software updates in December to activate 5G on an iPhone used in India. Apple first introduced 5G's ability with iPhone 12 in 2020.
"We teamed up with our operator partners in India to present the best 5G user experience of iPhone immediately after network validation and quality testing and performance completed. 5G will be activated through software updates and will begin to be launched to iPhone users in December," said the Apple spokesperson as enacted by techcrunch.com Wednesday.
Google has also promised to update the software for the device, although it has not yet provided a special time frame for the launch.
